On the territory of Sălaj county there are 3 of the important vineyards in Transylvania, namely Șimleu-Zalău, Șimleu-Șamșud, and Șimleul Silvaniei, with a cultivated area of over 1.770 hectares and with geographical indication Crișana Hills. The Thematic Route The Wine Road passing through Bobota, Șărmășag, Șamșud, Chieșd, Bocșa, DobrinCoșeiu, Hereclean, Horoatu Crasnei, Meseșenii de JosCrișeni, Crasna, PericeiBoghiș, NușfalăuIp, Măeriște, Vârșolț, Caraștelec, and Camăr, the localities that delimit the Wine Country today. The route is about 160 km and crosses municipality – Zalău, the city Șimleul Silvaniei also 20 territorial administrative units UAT, each remarkable by its culture and traditions. If we look at the Iozefine map, where the slopes of Carastelec were covered by vineyards, tradition documented for over 340 years. The types of wine you can find here are: Traminer Pink/Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat Ottonel, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Neuburger, Riesling Italian, Riesling of Rhin, Fetească Regală, Fetească Albă, Furmint. Digital maps locate wine cellars, vinotheques, cellars and vineyards, also tasting and information centers.
