Alba County
On the territory of Alba county there are 4 of the most important vineyards in Transylvania, namely Alba – Wine Land in the Middle Ages, Aiud, Sebeş-Apold and Târnave, with a cultivated area of over 4,000 hectares, with geographical indication Transilvania Hills. The Thematic Route The Wine Road passing through Gârbova, Câlnic, Sebeş, Alba Iulia, Şard, Ighiu, Ighiel, Ţelna, Cricău, Tibru, Teiuş, Aiud, Ciumbrud, Crăciunelu de Jos, Blaj, Jidvei, Cetatea de Baltă, the localities that delimit the Wine Country today. The route is about 200 km and crosses 4 municipalities – Sebeş, Alba Iulia, Aiud and Blaj, crossing 33 territorial administrative units UAT, each remarkable by its culture and traditions. There are testimonies according to which in 1173, the Ţelna wines were so well-ranked in the Duchy of Venice, that in setting the maximum prices they were exempted, and in 1293 there were built in the Duchy of Venice 15 galleries for the transport of wines from this held. The types of wine you can find here are: Traminer Pink/Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat Ottonel, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Neuburger, Riesling Italian, Riesling of Rhin, Fetească Regală, Fetească Albă, Furmint.
